Paper is a study workspace for students and professionals who work with large documents, lectures, and research. We built it because existing tools kept falling short.
Our purpose
If you study from dense material, you know the pain. PDFs that run hundreds of pages. Lecture recordings that run hours. Tools that either can't handle the size, or force you to bounce between five different apps.
Paper puts everything in one place. Upload a 3,000-page textbook or a two-hour lecture - we'll extract the text, generate flashcards, build quizzes, and let you chat with your sources. All with a Notion-style editor so you can take notes right alongside your material.

AI should help you understand your sources, not replace them. Every answer in Paper cites specific pages so you can check for yourself. If it's not in the document, we say so.

Most tools struggle past a couple hundred pages. We think the hardest-working students shouldn't have the worst experience. Paper handles thousands of pages because that's what real study looks like.

How we operate as a team.

Build for the user, not the metrics.
No engagement bait, no upsell modals, no notification spam. Features earn their place by making study actually better - not by inflating daily active users. When we're not sure, we ask the people using it.

Sweat the small things.
Craft matters. A button doesn't ship if it stutters. The annoying small bugs get fixed, not deprioritised. We'd rather polish one feature until it feels obvious than launch five that almost work.

We build Paper because we care about the people using it. Every page, every workflow, every reply to a user message - we want it to feel like there's someone on the other side who's paying attention.

Paper is built out of a small studio in Pyrmont, on the edge of Sydney Harbour. We ship from one timezone, so feedback turns into shipped features in days, not quarters.
